Portas Pilot bid
Portas Pilot bid
Canterbury City Partnership is leading the city’s application for support from the fund set up to develop pilot schemes at the Department for Communities and Local Government, following the review of town centres by Mary Portas last year. Setting out Canterbury’s ambition to be the Business Start-up Capital of Kent, the bid highlights the city’s many assets, especially in education, connectivity and investment in the creative sector, and the contrasting, relatively poor performance in business start-up, which is the third worst in Kent and some 20% lower than the national average for a city of its size.
The results of the bid will be announced in May. Meanwhile, CCP is working with partners across the city to begin the programme to boost business start-up in the city, beginning with the next CCP conference on 23rd May, at the ABode Hotel, 5 pm – 7.30 pm. Watch out for details on this website in the coming weeks.
The video we sent to accompany the bid features Kevin Lynes, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development at Kent County Council who sadly died recently. Kevin was a huge supporter of business and business people across the county and he will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with him. CCP extends our condolences to Kevin’s family and friends.
